What is Diwali?
Diwali is a universal festival for Indians and others around the world. It?s the homecoming of Rama after his victory over Ravana. Diyas (pictured above, cotton string wicks inserted in small clay pots filled with oil) were lit everywhere to guide Rama home on that very dark night. Now they signify victory of good over evil within an individual. Diwali is celebrated on a moonless night that marks the beginning of the month of Kartika which occurs around mid-October this year.
