One Million Lights to receive 11 million hours of light from Energizer
October 12, 2011/Palo Alto, CA – One Million Lights is proud to announce a partnership with Energizer Battery Company to support the Energizer Night Race for a Brighter World global race series as part of the new Energizer “now that’s positivenergy™” communications platform.
Around the world more than 1.6 billion people live without the luxury of electricity to light their homes*. These families are forced to use kerosene which is often expensive and dangerous. One Million Lights is on a mission to replace toxic kerosene lamps with solar alternatives.
To celebrate the kick-off of the new “now that’s positivenergy” platform and raise awareness for the need for safe, clean, affordable lighting Energizer is hosting a series of races around the globe. Through the Energizer Night Race for a Brighter World the company pledges to donate 11 million hours of solar light to One Million Lights.
“We are honored to partner with One Million Lights in their efforts to provide safe and healthy lighting to families in need, allowing them to work, study and play a little longer each night,” said Jeff Ziminski, Chief Marketing Officer. “The Energizer Night Race is so much more than a run. It’s a global group effort to spread positivity and remind people that when we work together, small contributions can add up to make a big impact on the world around us.”
One Million Lights will distribute these lights in rural places where the gift of solar lights will help change the lives of adults and children. Most of these communities live at subsistence level and may spend as much as fifty percent of their wages on toxic kerosene for lighting. Solar lights will enable these people to save this money and divert it towards income generation, healthcare, nutrition and education.
“Energizer is taking a very inspiring approach to a pervasive and critical problem in the world. The solar lights donated by Energizer are invaluable to these rural communities where they live day by day on meager incomes,” said Anna Sidana, founder of One Million Lights. “Solar is a wonderful alternative for clean lighting and its benefits go far beyond the comfort of light to improving health, education and reducing carbon emissions into the atmosphere.”
